Another Israeli rescue plane brought Holocaust survivors from the Ukraine to Israel. It was the 7th rescue flight. Among the passengers was Yelena, a 98-year-old Holocaust survivor who stayed at the medical facility in Kishinev and attended the Shavuot meal. During the meal she asked people to sing with her the Yom Kippur "Kol Nidre" prayer. She says she has not had the privilege of praying, celebrating Shabbat and holidays for decades. She said, "this time I felt something, I closed my eyes and saw my grandfather with his traditional clothing as he prayed & sang the Kol Nidre prayer. It brought me back to the dark days, when we had to keep our Judaism a secret & fought to keep our Jewish identity. I am excited to immigrate to Israel, the nation state of the Jewish people, where I can experience Shabbats and Jewish holidays and be happy in the years I still have left to live here in this world." Welcome home!
