Technion Asst. Prof. Shany Barath and Prof. Yehezkel Kashi have won the Climate Solution Breakthrough Research Prize. Their research on Cyanobacteria-powered 3D printing of carbon-efficient building components is a collaboration between the Technion Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning and the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering. Together, they are developing methods to cultivate building materials for 3D printing. These materials actively capture carbon dioxide during production and induce the precipitation of calcium carbonate, thereby solidifying the components.
