Urban Aeronautics is pleased to announce that on November 3, 2016 its Cormorant Unmanned Air vehicle (UAV) prototype has performed its first autonomous pattern flight including low flight over uneven terrain. Cormorant is a compact, high payload (500 kg) UAV with the unique capability to fly and land virtually anywhere due to it’s ducted-fan (wingless and rotorless) design. The aircraft’s uniquely compact footprint Ahas significantly improved safety and access as compared to conventional helicopters while matching the payload and range of a Bell 206 or similar helicopter. These transformative capabilities advance the state of the art in battlefield CASEvac and logistics as well as numerous civil applications such as agricultural spraying, emergency and disaster response, fire fighting, electric grid maintanance, off-shore logistics and many more.
