Kat is a New York Times Bestselling author—with the help of a psychic.
After teaming up with world-renowned psychic Sylvia Browne, Kat co-wrote and published Animals on the Other Side. The book was a hit and landed on the New York Times Bestseller list. Kat and Sylvia went on to publish and promote three more successful titles, and the books were all featured on The Montel Williams Show.
Kat’s writing career took a romantic turn when a love story about a mob boss and a troubled young woman wouldn’t get out of her head. After spending years writing The Russian Tattoos Trilogy, a new couple, Evelyn and Leo, the main characters of Drawn to Death, demanded her attention.
When Kat is not reading or writing romantic suspense, ghost thrillers, or murder mysteries, she enjoys long walks and traveling with her husband. She splits her time between Cincinnati, Ohio, and Boca Raton, Florida.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in theatre from Wilmington College, a professional writing certificate from the University of Cincinnati, and a master’s degree in creative writing from Spalding University. She has won two Benjamin Franklin Awards and Killer’s Nashville’s Claymore Award for Best Suspense.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2017This was book 2 in the "Russian Tattoos" series Prisoner. Carter Cook has lived with all the abused that was inflicted on her by Boris and Vladimir Ivanov. Carter is the obsession of mob boss Vladimir, a man she once loved. Now a mafia war has erupted on his home turf, and Vladimir’s enemies have put a bounty on her head to force him to surrender. This book opened with Carter living with her friend Kiki in her own apartment she begins dating a guy she met in the park and she and Kiki are going on spring break until she is kidnapped and taken to Russia. Boris has her kidnapped because of a mafia war and the Ovechkin Bratva will do anything to get to Vladimir. Boris is doing all he can to keep her save but, Carter needs to learn to keep her mouth shut at times and listen we also meet her new bodyguard Dmitry who is a young member of the Ivanov Bratva he is a boxer with two little sisters after she recovers from a head injury he teaches her how to defend herself. I really liked this book although when two guys attack the safe house she is in while one guy is fighting Dmitry she gets the other guys gun and she refuses to shot him she did hold they off until Boris shows up and shoots them both. When Boris takes her to see Vladimir she is angry at him and she has every right to be he hurt her and had his thugs hurt her also turns out Vladimir get mean when he drinks so he stopped. This book had a few surprises in it like instead of a fake wedding they get married for real. I didn't like how the women of the family treated Carter and Boris wife Anya tries to hit her she fails and gets hurt and ends up in the hospital the book also had a big surprise. This was a really good read this book was well written like the first book with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Live to fight another day.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2016I must say when i was searching for new reads and came across this book the cover ALONE drew this avid reader interest in reading this selection. From the very first page to the very last page i didnt want the story to end. I LOVED THIS BOOK...
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2016I had the great opportunity of reading Russian Tattoos Prisoner by Kat Shehata in an ARC in exchanged for a honest review. If giving 6 stars was a option I would have, I couldn't wait to visit russia and meet the family! This book kept me glued to the pages. Once I started the book I couldn't stop! When the last book eneded my mind was made up, I hated Vladimir and was glad he was gone. Also I never will look at vodka the same way! With Prisoner you see a different side to him. You actually see that he loves Carter and that he only tries to do what is best for her. That is for her to not be with him. You see that she is his grestest weakness. You could call her his kryptonite!!! A softer side was shown of the boss. He is almost a dfferent person but don't let that fool you he still is the pakhan! Kat Shehata gave the fans what we wanted; a real apology from Vladimir to Carter! I don't want to give away to many details but this book was simply amazing and I can't wait to read the next one!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2018Love me some Russian mafia books and this one does not disappoint. This story flowed so smoothly I felt like I was watching a television series. It had kidnapping, strong family values, revelations, understanding, acceptance, love making and so much more. The characters were all like able and you are given the history of there backgrounds as well. Which in turn made the story very engaging and easy to follow. As a person who reads a lot of mafia novels I must say this is one of my favorites. And to also give me chapters to read on the next installment of the story just sucked me into purchasing the next book. Yes it was that good and the author was smart to put it at the end. So TBC. Happy Reading
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2018The second installment kept me glued to my Kindle from start to finish. Yes there is a cliffhanger, but the entire series is available so you will only be hanging as long as it takes to open the next book. The writing kept me intrigued - similar to opening a present and finding another box and another box and not knowing how it will end. I simultaneously love and hate certain characters but am hanging on to the hope that all will work out in the end but not entirely convinced I will get my wish. Can’t wait to start the final installment!!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2016I like this series, it is not my favorite. I found some of the character's lacking and the story is meh I honestly expected more. I found the story becoming very predictable. It was the same old Carter making the same stupid decision's over and over again. Boris being Boris and Vladimir being an idiot over a teenager. For a semi romance I found the sex scenes lacking to everything supposedly building between Carter and Vladimir. If you read the first book you know this is a Trilogy and ends in cliff hanger but it is still not stated in the description of the books and it needs to be for those who do not like cliff hangers that is only fair to your readers. I really like the idea of the story line I love Mob romances but I just find it lacking in so many areas. Overall I gave it three stars it is not bad read just not what I would consider keep you on the edge of my seat and oh my God when's the last book coming out I have to have it book. Just Meh. It's Forgettable..
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2016Just a great series, I feel like I know the characters personally. What a geat job KAT did to bring the plot together. Now I got to wait for book 3, I hope it's not a long wait .
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2016I was blown away by this book. The stuff Carter is put through is scary, painful, & intense. This is what I would imagine a real life mafia would be like. This series just gets better and better. I couldn't stop reading it, all the action and suspense just keeps you hooked, and rooting for Carter.
The intense love Vladimir has for her and what he is willing to give up is just wow! Let's not forget Boris and Carters love/hate relationship. You really get to know more about him in this book.. This is a must read book! A must read trilogy! Come on book 3.
