REAPER (Boston Underworld Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 6,519 ratings

He’s dark and mysterious. Quiet and lethal. Pure sin wrapped up in a beautiful package.
But there’s also something off about him.
He doesn’t feel anything. He shows no emotions.
Sometimes, I question his humanity.
He hasn’t spoken to me in two years. Not a single word.
But we share a secret, he and I.
And if it ever comes out, I have no doubt in my mind…
He won’t have a problem killing me too.

***

I’ve slain for her. I’ll do it again.
When it comes to Sasha, there isn’t a line I won’t cross.
I watch her. She doesn’t know it.
She thinks I hate her. Sometimes, I think I might too.
But I’m always there, lurking in the shadows.
Craving her. Trying to keep the beast within at bay.
I’ll keep her safe. I’ll slaughter anyone who tries to hurt her.
The only thing I can’t do… is protect her from myself.

The Boston Underworld Series consists of six full-length standalones that can be read in any order. There is character crossover, so if you prefer to start from the beginning, the series order is as follows: Crow, Reaper, Ghost, Saint, Thief, Conor.

Themes in Reaper include:
Irish Mafia
Tortured Hero
Jealous/Possessive Hero
Who Hurt You

    Reaper - A. Zaverelli

Dare I say it ?..........Book 1 of this series is A-MAZING !! I loved Crow.
Book 2, Reaper - IS EVEN BETTER!!! ( I feel like I'm cheating on book 1 by stating that lol)

Boston Underworld is a series and although Reaper can be read as a stand alone I'd really recommend reading Crow first. This not only means you'll get to read a freaking awesome book but it really will pull everything in Reaper into context as there are some overlapping characters from Crow in this story.

    A. Zaverelli has totally blown me away with her writing. I admit I hadn't read anything from this author previously and I picked up Crow after seeing it in my Amazon recommendations. I'm SOOOO pleased I did. The first thing I did after finishing Crow was click on Reaper and now as I write this review I have book 3 of the series Ghost ready to dive into - and I can't wait !

This novel is Ronan's story. He's a complicated man with quirky ways and a no nonsense attitude. He's known as the Reaper within the "crew" because he's a cold and calculating killer. He's a beast. He's the quintessential Mr Hyde. He lets no one in past his barriers, that is until she comes into his life.
Sasha - she's the beauty to his beast and the one to bring out Mr Jekyll from his Mr Hyde side. She makes him question himself and that's not a good thing when he has to have his head in the game 24/7 - lives depend on it.

The character development amazed me.....I really felt like this story was a unique twist on a classic beauty and the beast but with pinches of the Incredible Hulk chucked into the mix !! Ronan was like a ticking bomb ready to explode at anytime yet Sasha was his anchor, his place of peace in a world of chaos and even though she didn't understand him herself she put her life in his hands. Although both are lost souls they have reason to be and I honestly cried at Ronan's back story !!

I've read a few Mafia romance reads and I have to say this is one of my most favourites yet. The author has certainly done her research and it shows through her writing style. As I was reading this book I really felt like I didn't just get a story out of the author, I almost felt like I could sense the blood, sweat and tears she put into the work of producing this book. That for me gave me an air of not only admiration but of huge respect too.

In my opinion the author brings a much needed fresh style to the alpha male protagonist and that's one of the things I'm loving about this author - she's daring, she's outside the box, she will give you one thing then flip it on its axis - keeping you on the edge of your seat. My poor arms were numb from the way I gripped my kindle as I read this book because the tension was so captivating.

The author held me spellbound with this story because she writes in a way that makes you want to keep turning the pages with the anticipation of what the next page will reveal not just to see what happens at the end of the journey. Each page counted. Each page held secrets and surprises. That's the kind of tantalising I love from a book not just finding the twist at the end of the book.
This is a dark and gritty read that can get very dark in places yet the characters have a way of blinding you with light making this a wonderful head screw of a read and also offers up some humour too - see a full package !

I REALLY CANT RECOMMEND THIS ENOUGH - I only hope this review bestows some part of justice on this book because 5 stars doesn't cut it!
    10/10 all the way !!

This was a great read. Ronan (aka the reaper ) is a tortured soul who's been through so much and had a hard childhood that has stilted his social skills. Sasha has also struggled in life, experiencing hardship, heartbreak and abuse. I loved how they connected but what I loved the most from this book was Ronan's character. He's a big strapping man, yet childlike with his emotions and the way he processes things. Through Sasha's patience and love he gradually blossoms.

Similar to Crow's story, the plot gets convoluted and ridiculous at times (I think the author just can't help it), but the characters make up for it.

It’s official, Reaper has left me speechless. I’m sitting here trying to write a review about a book that was as close to perfect as I am going to find and I’m completely unable to express my emotions.

Whilst a dark story involving gangland violence, this book also tells the story of a beautifully broken man who is put back together by a stripper. Not your everyday fairytale I know, but Ronan and Sasha’s story worked, in perfect unison.

From the very first page I rekindled my love for Ronan. As a child, he was destined and trained to be a soldier monster. Found and saved by Lachlan Crow, he has since served his time as a Reaper for the MacKenna Syndicate. Being Crow’s righthand man means living a hard life but it’s no comparison to the pain and suffering her experienced as a child. Since his salvation, Ronan has inexplicably felt a connection to one of the club’s strippers, Sasha. Despite their initial, and unconventional connection, Ronan remains elusive and despite Sasha’s attraction to him, he keeps his distance from her. Ronan is almost a man-child in his innocence and his story certainly left me with a lump in my throat and a pull on my heartstrings. Despite being a hardened criminal, Ronan has no life lessons to speak of and finds himself in unchartered water when it comes to protecting Sasha.

Even though Ronan is reluctant to talk to Sasha, he is her ever present guardian angel and that for me made him all the more loveable. Despite the suffering Sasha is experiencing as she watches her mother’s health deteriorate, Ronan is always close at hand to take care of her. When Ronan’s resolve all but fails, they connect in a brutally physical way and it takes time for Sasha to draw some finesse out of this muscle bound killer. Their journey together was perfect and Ronan’s reactions to Sasha’s tender ministrations were beautiful.

Despite the darkness to this story, it is also both sad and comical at times. Talia is once again mentioned in this story. I had assumed that her story would have continued in the background but despite getting one answer about her current whereabouts, her story remains untold.

It’s difficult to express the ride this book takes you on but I can assure readers that this story is 50% darkness and 50% magic.

    Adult-Maffia-Romance, standalone. Absolute Kaufempfehlung!
